Definition

The house of the body and the self — Sanskrit Tanur Bhava, "the house of the body." Reckoned from the Ascendant (lagna), the rising point of the zodiac. It is the prime factor for physical constitution and birth, indicates congenital vitality and self-projection into the world, and (for Frawley) is the single most important factor in the whole chart — its strength can override anything else.

⚑ The 1st house is the chart's body-and-vitality node: Frawley makes it "the main factor for determining physical constitution" and says congenital weakness here is "a primary factor in ill-health" (book p.146). This is the cosmos→body coupling on the houses side — the Ascendant is where planetary influence "enters into us and becomes an integral part of our lives."
