Definition

The house of loss (as the 11th is of gain) and of expense (as the 11th is of income) — decrease, wastage, decay; we lose or waste the traits of planets placed here. A house of sorrow, disappointment, confinement, work behind the scenes (hospital/asylum/monastery); also of secret pleasure, luxury and dissipation. It represents the past, past karma, the subconscious, the astral/subtle planes and the after-death state — and, as the negation of life, LIBERATION (moksha): the house of Yoga and meditation, renunciation and surrender.

Prāṇa relevance

The 12th is the house of liberation/moksha — "the negation of life... the denial of ego through renunciation and surrender... a house of Yoga and meditation" (book p.153). This is the spiritual-prana / dissolution pole rather than the bodily-vitality one; it is also the after-death/astral house. Prana-relevant on the YOGIC axis (where prana is withdrawn/transcended), not the digestive/vitality axis. Not yet traced to a specific prana physiology.
