- Statement
- The Ayurvedic (humor) constitution is determined by the planet with the greatest strength of influence on the body-significators: the 1st house (Ascendant) and 6th house, their lords, the Sun and Moon and their rulers. The Ascendant governs the physical incarnation generally and is primary (use the Sun for men, the Moon for women; a Moon stronger than the Ascendant can determine the type even for men). Planets in the 1st house, and planets in/aspecting the 6th house, modify the type. If two planets of the same humor strongly affect these factors the judgement is more assured.

- Conditions
- 1st & 6th houses + their lords + Sun & Moon + their rulers are the body-significators; strongest planet among these sets the type
- Exceptions
- Frawley cautions this is complicated and should not be judged by chart alone — a photo, medical history, or Ayurvedic questionnaire helps (book p.218)
- Caveats
- Mars on the Ascendant (esp. aspecting its lord) renders a person fiery; Sun-Mars conjunction makes one fiery (book p.217). Nine planetary types, not just three (book p.215).
