- Statement
- Western astrology calls a planet in the sign OPPOSITE the one it rules 'in detriment' (e.g. Mars in Libra). Vedic astrology does NOT recognize this: location opposite a ruled sign is POSITIVE, because from there the planet can aspect its own sign by the full opposition (180°) aspect. The Vedic rule is that a planet is strong if it can aspect its own sign — especially planets with no special aspects (e.g. the Moon in Capricorn is favorable, as only from there can it aspect its own sign Cancer).
