Statement

Quartering the square-aligned Vāstu Puruṣa Maṇḍala arranges the Five Great Elements in space: Fire in the southeast, Air in the northwest, Water in the northeast, while the southwest represents EITHER Space OR Earth (authorities disagree) and the fifth of the two (the one not at SW) sits at the stable center. The intermediate-direction significances derive from the sun's seasonal rising/setting points.
