Elemental Space — the Five Elements as felt in a dwelling

rul-element-in-architecture

Prāṇa relevance

⚑ The elements 'carry prāṇa and respond to prāṇa' (PDF p.074); ākāśa especially is the prāṇa-and- awareness-bearing field, and 'Vāstu is ākāśa' (PDF pp.074). prāṇa is the refined Air element and tejas the refined Fire (PDF p.081), so getting-to-know / arranging the gross elements in a dwelling is held to order their refined (prāṇic) forms in the body. Strong but interpretive at the gross↔subtle joint.

Statement
Each of the five Great Elements has a felt, architectural presence and a beneficial/detrimental polarity in a dwelling: Earth (solidity) grounds or petrifies; Water (liquidity) makes life juicy or gummy; Fire (transformation) gives clarity or selfish manipulation; Air (movement) gives vigor or exhaustion depending on flow; Space (the field) gives the bliss of unobstructedness or the ache of hollowness. The elements are cross-vidyā correspondences ('Fire is Fire wherever it appears'): Fire = Mars (Jyotiṣa) = pitta/tejas (Āyurveda) = the southeast (Vāstu). They are 'better termed the Five Great States of Material Existence' (solid/liquid/gas/transformation/field). Vāstu is the awakening of the (faintly conscious) elements within a well-defined region.

Conditions
each element can nourish, balance, or disturb its doṣa progeny in body and mind; to work with one elemental correlate (e.g. Fire as candle-gazing) is to influence all its cross-vidyā correlates
