Statement
Each rank receives five graded house-widths in hasta, length exceeding breadth by a stated fraction: king 108/100/92/84/76, +1/4 (lengths 135/125/115*/105/95); commander-in-chief 64/58/52/46/40, +1/6; ministers 60/56/52/48/44, +1/8 (queens: half the ministers' dimensions); yuvaraja 80/74/68/62/56, +1/3 (younger princes: half); royal astrologers, preceptors and physicians 40/36/32/28/24, +1/6. Derived ranks take differences: feudatories/nobles/officers = king − minister; chamberlains/courtesans/artistes = king − yuvaraja; workshop-heads and envoys = yuvaraja − minister; stable/elephant/dairy/kitchen directors = treasury-and-pleasure-house dimensions.
Details
*printed length 116 for the 92-width house; arithmetic (92 × 5/4) gives 115 — print/OCR uncertainty flagged (Q11). Bhat notes the chamberlain case computes to 28 × 28½ and 'looks rather odd' [MODERN] (Q12).
