The house–sign analogy (1st~Aries … 12th~Pisces) and its Vedic departures

Prāṇa relevance

Carries the body homology: 1st~Aries~head … 6th~Virgo~digestion … 12th~Pisces~feet, the kalapurusha head-to-feet map that the Medical theme uses for body-part affliction. The analogy is the bridge that lets a house inherit its sign's bodily correspondence. Gross-body level.

Statement
Each house generally carries a meaning analogous to the sign of the same number (1st~Aries head/ego/self, 2nd~Taurus resources, 3rd~Gemini curiosity, 4th~Cancer mother/home, 5th~Leo soul/creative intelligence, 6th~Virgo health/work, 7th~Libra relationship, 8th~Scorpio sex/death/occult, 9th~Sagittarius religion/philosophy, 10th~Capricorn status/achievement, 11th~Aquarius aspirations/friendship, 12th~Pisces subconscious/hidden emotion). Neither system follows the analogy rigidly; the Vedic system DEPARTS more than the Western, most notably at the 3rd house (Vedic: prowess/siblings/motivation, not the Western rational/informational mind) and the 11th house (Vedic: individualistic/egoistic gains, not Western group/friendship). The houses cannot simply follow the signs because they divide a different (earthly) space, whereas signs divide a cosmic/solar one.

[{"school":"Vedic (Frawley)","position":"analogy holds loosely but the 3rd & 11th depart sharply from the sign meanings; houses divide an earthly space","source":"Frawley book p.135–137","tag":"MODERN"},{"school":"Western","position":"follows the house-sign analogy more closely (esp. 3rd = rational mind, 11th = friendship/group)","source":"Frawley book p.135–137 (reporting the Western view)","tag":"MODERN"}]
Conditions
the analogy is a heuristic for house meaning, not an identity; the natural significator (karaka) of a house is NOT the lord of the analogous sign (e.g. Mars significates the 3rd, but Mercury rules Gemini — book p.155)
