Natural house significators (karakas) — the standing planet per house

rul-house-significators-karakas

Prāṇa relevance

Couples the disease/vitality/longevity houses to specific grahas — Saturn↔6th(disease)/8th(longevity), Mars↔6th(injury), Sun↔1st(self/body) — so the karaka roster is the planet-to-body-house map on the medical axis. Gross level.

Statement
Beyond the lord of the sign on a house cusp, the Vedic system assigns each house a standing natural SIGNIFICATOR (karaka), the same for all charts, whose chart position is read for that house's affairs. The roster: 1st = Sun (self); 2nd = Jupiter (earning capacity) & Mercury (childhood, speech, education); 3rd = Mars (energy, prowess); 4th = Moon (mind, emotions, mother); 5th = Jupiter (children, creativity, intelligence); 6th = Mars (enmity, injury, theft) & Saturn (disease); 7th = Venus (wife, male chart) & Jupiter (husband, female chart); 8th = Saturn (death, longevity); 9th = Jupiter (dharma) & Sun (father); 10th = Mercury & Jupiter (profession) & Sun (fame, prestige); 11th = Jupiter (gain); 12th = Saturn (loss). Jupiter significates houses 2·5·7·9·11; Saturn houses 6·8·12. Rahu & Ketu act as joint significators (Rahu with Saturn, Ketu with Mars), with Rahu the special significator of foreigners (via the 6th) and Ketu of liberation (via the 12th).

Conditions
it is good if a house's significator ASPECTS that house, but NOT good if it is LOCATED in it (e.g. Jupiter in the 5th is bad for children); a planet in a house/sign it owns or significates doubles any negative aspect
Exceptions
some affairs have no single-house karaka — Venus significates ART, judged via the 2nd (poetry), 4th (pathos/drama) and 5th (general creativity), book p.155
Claimed Classical
Jyotisha — the karaka roster is standard Vedic doctrine; Frawley transmits it (table, book p.154–155), noting the significators are NOT the lords of the analogous signs
