Statement
Jyotisha has three skandhas (branches): Ganita/Tantra (mathematical astronomy — planetary motion), Hora (horoscopy), and Anga-vinishchaya (determination of the ascendant/houses). A work compiling all three is a Samhita. (BS is such a Samhita; VM's Pancasiddhantika is Ganita, his Brihat Jataka is Hora.)

Vedanga Note
BS I frames jyotisha as a Vedanga (ancillary of the Vedas), created by Brahman and handed down through Garga [CLASSICAL — BS I, with Utpala quoting Garga].
