Reading a site's subtle energy, patterns, and 'genius of the place'
rul-site-genius-and-energy-svobodaPrāṇa relevance
The most prāṇa-laden site doctrine of the chapter: land nāḍīs are 'ethereal vessels in which prāṇa moves', their marmas damaged by building on them; the meta-pattern and 'genius' are read receptively by quieting one's own mind/prāṇa. The land↔resident relation is framed as a living, prāṇic, even personal one. Mechanisms are interpretive/experiential (modern), not root-text physiology.

- Statement
- A site has SUBTLE criteria beyond the gross: (1) the meta-pattern — 'a pattern of patterns' (after Alexander's A Pattern Language) — every natural/artificial feature contributes, and one's desired structure must fit it (the new building must agree with its 'residue'/vastu); (2) terrestrial nāḍīs & land-marmas (see the pra-vastu-marma / pra-bhumi-sira patches) — don't build on a land nāḍī or, worse, a land-marma; locate them via expert or one's own breath/intuition; (3) avoid power lines, microwave towers, radiation; (4) event-imprinted land — land scoured by fire/lightning, of childbirth-death, infant-death, murder, near a graveyard, or once a temple/church (too 'oriented to the other world') is eschewed; (5) the 'genius of the place' — each site has an intelligence/custodian spirit; familiarize oneself, sit quietly and receptively to 'perceive patterns from the land's perspective', watch for omens, and gauge whether the land 'likes you'. Off-energy sites may be remediated (e.g. Tibetan stūpas as kīla 'nails' pinning unstable space) but no remedy is guaranteed; better to forswear troubled sites.
