Investigating and selecting the land (site evaluation)

rul-site-selection-svoboda

Prāṇa relevance

Site evaluation is explicitly a prāṇa evaluation ('its prāṇa and soul', p.251); the security and climate criteria protect the resident's doṣas/prāṇa via 'like increases like' (the ch. 3 mechanism). The space↔owner-fit doctrine is a resonance claim (which party's pattern dominates), prāṇa-adjacent but not given a prāṇa mechanism here.

Statement
A site should be SECURE (free of earthquake/storm/flood zones, war zones, chemical/biological/radiation pollution, noise; away from high-traffic public institutions whose traffic breeds rajas; away from disreputable neighbors — 'choosing your neighbors carefully is good Vāstu'). An ideal site sits in a MODERATE climate (moderate relative to the owner's Ayurvedic constitution/condition) with accessible water, even topography and a gentle slope, fertile-yet-dense soil. Beauty is evaluated 'from the inside out… from the subtle to the densely material' — 'less about the site's skin… and more about its prāṇa and soul'. A space is judged 'good'/'bad' by the prevalence and strength of benevolent vs malevolent influences; even a 'good' space may be wrong for a given owner (space↔owner fit). Consult a jyotiṣi (birth chart + praśna/horary) or a trusted adviser before and during acquisition.

Conditions
Climate-by-constitution (p.252): pitta people avoid the hot south/tropics (Mars rules south); vāta people avoid arid/windy west (Saturn rules west); kapha people avoid the humid NE/NW (Jupiter rules NE, Moon rules NW). Space↔owner outcome: both strong & aligned → sukha; strong space / weak owner → underdeveloped; one party much stronger → that one prevails; both deficient & ill-matched → inhospitable.
