Prāṇa relevance

Shape is justified by prāṇa: 'jagged boundaries generate irregularities in the movement of prāṇa, reducing the benefic resonance'; the triangle's fiery (Mars/pitta) over-intensity is an elemental, not bare-geometric, claim. Square symmetry = serene prāṇa; irregularity = agitated prāṇa. Mechanism stated at the prāṇa-flow level, consistent with the slope rule.

Vāstu prefers SQUARE or RECTANGULAR sites (small squares/rectangles wedged between bigger lots are often unsuitable). Triangular, circular, semicircular, pentagonal, hexagonal, drum-shaped and L-shaped sites are generally disapproved (even if symmetrical); some sources allow the APSIDAL shape (gajapṛṣṭa, square+semicircle), and a circular plot if a circular house is built on it. Triangular plots/structures may occasionally work at river/road junctions (a triangle 'symbolizes the fiery warrior planet Mars'; its energy centers at its focus and can become 'too intense to digest'). Irregular/jagged boundaries generate irregular prāṇa movement; large or irregular plots should be demarcated into squares/rectangles (the 'scraps' becoming gardens/ponds). EXTENSIONS: symmetrical N or E extension off the NE corner is auspicious; SE extension said by some to favor female inhabitants; NW extension said good for social/business group pursuits; 'no one likes extensions into the SW' (remedy: add land or truncate). A 'Tiger-mouthed' plot (front wider than back) is trimmed; mis-aligned symmetrical plots are trimmed to align with the cardinal directions ('benefits of good alignment outweigh the land sacrificed').
