Soil conditions and ground tests (Svoboda's restatement)

rul-soil-and-ground-tests-svoboda

Prāṇa relevance

Soil fertility/density and inherited 'energy' bear on the site's overall prāṇa and the resident's sukha (esp. the buried-debris 'lingering energy you are unlikely to digest easily'); the tests themselves are procedural. Not a closed prāṇa-chain; the 'energy of previous inhabitants' is a resonance claim left untraced.

Statement
Rich soil promotes fruitfulness; read fertility from existing vegetation and the birds/animals present (gentle birds, mild animals, flowering/fragrant/fruit-bearing plants = fertile, congenial, moderate land; rocks, anthills, termite mounds, biting insects, thorny/poisonous plants = a 'harsher' personality, best avoided; water-reclaimed land best left alone). Soil should be soft-but-rich, sweet in odor and taste, resonant when struck. TESTS: (a) germination — sow grain: sprouts in 3 days = good, 5 = middling, longer = inferior; (b) compaction/load-bearing — dig a pit (2–2½ ft square & deep) at the site centre and refill with the excavated earth: LEFT-OVER dirt = good/dense (bigger pile = denser), exactly-filled = acceptable, SHORTFALL = undesirable; (c) drainage/water-retention — fill a similar hole with water, walk 100 paces and back: undropped = good, slightly dropped = okay, gone = reject; (d) the cattle test — let bulls graze; if they grow spirited and pursue the cows, the land promotes virile fertility. EXCAVATION also reveals inherited 'energy': ashes/bones/buried debris = lingering energy hard to digest — a little can be removed, but pervasive human refuse means replacing the top 6 ft of soil with fresh earth.

Cross Ref Note
⚑ The refill (pit) test and the 100-paces water test are the SAME procedures as Book-1 cal-bhumi-pariksha (BS 53.91–94: pit refilled with its own earth — surplus blest / level moderate / shortfall harmful; and the water-filled pit walked 100 paces — undiminished is blest). Svoboda gives feet, not hasta. Strong cross-book concurrence — surfaced as a corroboration question, NOT merged.
