Statement
Boil the decoction ingredients in 1 drona (256 palas), reduce to 1/8 (32 palas), mix the sediment with the resins/seeds named; apply hot. Used in temples, mansions, windows, walls, wells, and in fixing Shiva-lingas and idols; said to last a crore of years. Three further compounds (lac-soot, animal-horn vajratala, metallic vajra-sanghata) serve the same binding purpose.
Modern Note
Even now such glues (Ashtabandha) are prepared in temple premises for fixing images [MODERN — M.R. Bhat (1981)].
