- Soil and rock determine water: copper-coloured gravelly earth → astringent water; red-brown earth → brackish; pale-white earth → salt; blue earth → sweet. Rocks resembling beryl, green-gram, dark gem, ripe fig, bee or collyrium indicate abundant water nearby; pigeon-, honey-ghee-, silk- or Soma-coloured rocks yield inexhaustible water; rocks of ash/camel/donkey/sun/fire colour give none. Sun-, fire-, ash-, camel- or donkey-coloured land is waterless.
