Installing a deity image (mūrti-sthāpana as a home safeguard)

act-deity-installationDefinition
Stationing a deity image — a mūrti, a yantra, a geometrical form, or an anthropomorphic image — near the front door (or in appropriate places) as a 'general safeguard' for the entire home. ⚑ The image is not décor: 'the deity's image acts as a GATEWAY to the actual cosmic force that the deity embodies', which makes an insult to the image equivalent to an insult to the Universe. The practice requires sincere faith and treating the image like a valued, fed family member / honored guest (Svoboda's Gaṇeśa-on-the- milk-dispenser anecdote: a neglected, unfed deity adds obstacles rather than removing them). A deity image is OPTIONAL ('not an essential addition'; millions live fulfilled lives without one) — but if welcomed and then ignored or insulted, things 'go consistently wrong'. [TRADITIONAL — Vāstu/āgama installation practice, transmitted by Svoboda; the gateway/embodies framing leans MODERN-Svoboda in its phrasing].
Traditional
Prāṇa relevance
Not a direct prāṇa-physiology claim. The image is a GATEWAY (embodies-edge) to a cosmic force, and via the Vāstusūtra-Upaniṣad principle a harmonious form induces a meditative mood (dhyāna-bhāva) in the beholder — a consciousness/sattva effect rather than a vāyu/breath effect. prana_relevance: not yet traced beyond the dhyāna-bhāva (sattva) link; the deity-as-cosmic-force is the embodies-connection's payload.

embodies · 1
- Svoboda's clearest metaphysical claim in ch.11: a stationed deity image 'acts as a gateway to the actual cosmic force that the deity embodies' (p.293). The installed image (act-deity-installation) makes present the cosmic force personified by the deity — Ganesha being the most popular such image. The image is the concrete presence/gateway; the deity is the cosmic force. (embodies per §4: A is the concrete presence/personification of B.)

Other attributes
- Physiological Aspect
- Not a bodily activity but a relational/energetic one: the resident's faith and ongoing care (feeding, offering, respect) keep the image a live conduit to the cosmic force; neglect severs the conduit and 'attracts obstacles'. The bhāva (devotional mood) of the resident is the active variable.
- Typical Zone
- near the front door (the home's 'mouth'); also in appropriate sacred places throughout the home
