Heart Center (Anahata chakra)

अनाहतanāhata

also: heart-chakra, heart-center, 4th chakra

pra-anahata

Definition

The fourth chakra, at the heart — the center of love and the affections. In Frawley's yogic astrology it is ruled by Venus; both the Moon (in Taurus) and Saturn (in Libra) are exalted at this center, making it the meeting point of receptivity and detachment.
Traditional

Prāṇa relevance

The heart center is, in Frawley's integration map, the destination of two movements — the lunar receptive mind brought down from the head (Moon↑Taurus) and saturnian detachment raised up from the root (Saturn↑Libra) — so it is the balance point of the subtle-body system. As the traditional heart-seat (and, in classical yoga, a seat of prana and the jiva) it is prana-relevant, though Frawley here frames it through love/receptivity/detachment rather than an explicit prana physiology [MODERN — Frawley].

  • Air (Vayu)Traditional
The Anahata (heart center) corresponds to air (vayu) — the standard tantric mahabhuta of the fourth chakra. Supplied as the standard series, not from Frawley's chapter, which warns its element-rulership diverges (book p.234).
  • The Moon is exalted in Taurus — the sign of Venus (lunar half) and the heart. The Moon's connection with the heart is well-known; this is 'the place of greatest receptivity and openness'.
  • Saturn is exalted in Libra — the sign of Venus (solar half) and the heart. Here Saturn represents the higher principles of justice, order and detachment, necessary for using heart-energy rightly, without attachment or bias.

System Of Origin

Location In Body
heart / center of the chest (fourth center up the spine)
Function
Love and the affections (Venus); 'the place of greatest receptivity and openness' (Moon exalted in Taurus here); and the seat where Saturn's higher principles of justice, order and detachment are needed to use the heart's energy rightly, without attachment or bias (Saturn exalted in Libra here). Frawley: the lunar receptive mind from the head needs to be integrated into the love energy in the heart; saturnian detaching energy from the root needs to be brought up into the heart.
