Saṁskāra (a 'thing done well' / refining impression) — incl. the space-saṁskāra
संस्कारsaṁskāra
also: samskara, space-samskara, refining-impression, thing-done-well
pra-samskaraDefinition
A saṁskāra is literally 'a thing done well' — a deep, refining impression formed when something is 'thoroughly cooked in the fire of cognition.' Memorizing thousands of verses lays down a saṁskāra in 'the ephemeral mind and the physical brain' that enhances desirable qualities and diminishes negative ones; learning a text 'actually reorders the learner's thought faculties and rearranges synaptic connections.' ⚑ Svoboda's signature transfer: Vāstu is the study of 'space saṁskāras' — of methods for turning ordinary or 'aggrieved' spaces into 'good spaces' by tweaking their dimensions, shapes and arrangements. [MODERN — Svoboda, extending a TRADITIONAL yoga/Sanskrit-pedagogy concept to SPACE.]
Traditional
Prāṇa relevance
Indirect: a space-saṁskāra produces 'good space' (sukha), and good space is the chapter's health/prāṇa pole (see rul-vastu-sukha); 'mind-space' and 'brain-space' reorganization lets a student access a 'beyond rational' mode of perception. The chain space-saṁskāra → good space (sukha) → revitalized prāṇa is stated at the sukha pole (PDF pp.051–053) but the saṁskāra→prāṇa physiology itself is not spelled out — one interpretive step short of closed. Not fully traced.

- Svoboda: 'Vāstu is the study of "space saṁskāras," of methods for turning ordinary or "aggrieved" spaces into "good spaces".' A space-saṁskāra (a 'thing done well' to a dwelling — tweaking its dimensions/shapes/arrangements) is precisely the operation that produces 'good space' (sukha). So laying a saṁskāra on a space SUPPORTS the sukha-target of rul-vastu-sukha. Parallels the mind-saṁskāra that reorders the learner's thought faculties to create a 'literal good space within the student.'

Other attributes
- System Of Origin
- yoga-tantra / Sanskrit-pedagogy (transferred to space/vastu by Svoboda — system_of_origin = shared: yoga-tantra↔vastu)
- Location In Body
- in the mind and the physical brain (verse-memorization re-orders the thought faculties and synaptic connections); by extension, 'in' a space (a space-saṁskāra is impressed on a dwelling)
- Function
- Names the refining-impression mechanism by which a 'well-done' practice upgrades its substrate: a mind-saṁskāra upgrades the learner; a SPACE-saṁskāra upgrades a dwelling ('good space'). The bridge by which Vāstu is itself a saṁskāra-discipline applied to architecture rather than to mind alone.
