Svoboda's direction↔guṇa equation (NE-sattva, SW-tamas, SE/NW-rajas)
—
rul-direction-guna-scheme-svobodaPrāṇa relevance
Couples each direction to a guṇa, and thence (with the element scheme) to a doṣa, giving a direction→guṇa→doṣa→body chain. The sattva-max NE is where vāta relaxes; the tamas-max SW is where prāṇa's flow is impeded — the guṇa axis and the doṣa axis converge on the same NE-good / SW-bad polarity. FULL treatment is the ch.7 confluences theme; captured here as Svoboda's self-flagged MODERN position for §8-style scheme comparison.

⚑ The ch.7 confluence half RE-STATES and OPERATIONALIZES the directions↔guṇas equation as the spine of the four corner-confluences (PDF p.190): NE=sattva (future/head), SE&NW=rajas (present/hands), SW=tamas (past/lower-body), in a clockwise cycle. Svoboda re-flags it as his reading ('If, like India's ancient sages, we were of an anthropomorphic bent, we might espy... the very stance taken by the Vāstu Puruṣa'). This is the SAME equation he marks UNCONVENTIONAL in his Preamble — captured as his self-flagged MODERN position, NOT adjudicated.Sources

Notes from other books
- txt-svoboda-vastuThe pilot minted rul-direction-guna-scheme-svoboda from ch.6 and noted Svoboda flags it as unconventional in his Preamble. The ch.7 second half is where that equation does its work — each corner-confluence bundles its guṇa with its element/planet/limb. Patched here (not re-minted) so the rule accrues its ch.7 evidence while the self-flagged-unconventional status stays surfaced as the ★★★ question. [MODERN — Svoboda]

- Statement
- Directionality induces the Three Guṇas to predominate in distinct portions of the maṇḍala: sattva maximal in the NORTHEAST (pre-dawn, most meditative), tamas maximal in the SOUTHWEST (pre-dusk, least focused), and rajas in the SOUTHEAST and NORTHWEST (the dynamic quadrants) — SE's rajas better-focused (flavored by following NE), NW's rajas tamas-flecked (following SW). The guṇa cycle runs clockwise with the sun: sattva → rajas → tamas → rajas → sattva, ad infinitum, mirroring the sun's daily E→S→W→N circuit.

- Conditions
- Svoboda flags this directions↔guṇas equation as unconventional in his Preamble (his self-flagged MODERN position); reinforced by India's tropical climate (south-tamas) and by the seers' magnetic-field observations (north-sattva).
- Exceptions
- Hemisphere-dependent: Svoboda footnotes that the southern hemisphere reverses the solar/seasonal basis.
