Ananta (Shesha)
अनन्तAnanta
also: Shesha, Śeṣa
dev-anantaDefinition
The thousand-headed serpent (Ananta / Śeṣa, 'residue'/'remainder') who supports the earth on his hooded heads; the regent of the DOWNWARD direction (adhas) in Svoboda's ten-direction roster; source of all natural resources and worldly pleasures. Bound down ('nailed') at foundation-laying time via a peg driven where the astrologer locates him, fixing position, establishing directions, and making the chaotic cosmic — paralleling the pinning of the Vāstu Puruṣa.
Traditional
Prāṇa relevance
His binding 'fixes time' and stabilizes the world (a Snodgrass quote Svoboda uses) — a cosmological-ordering act, not a stated prāṇa physiology. Not yet traced.

⚑ Śeṣa (aka Ananta), 'the thousand-headed serpent who supports the earth on his thousand hoods', EMBODIES the RESIDUE that becomes a residence once it is bound down. At the foundation rite, ritualists 'bind Śeṣa down' by determining a spot where Śeṣa can be regarded present, then driving a wooden or metal peg into the ground there to fix that position as the center of the microcosm that is the structure-to-be. Svoboda invokes Śeṣa/Ananta when establishing the foundation, to express appreciation for the stability and support that are 'the purview of Mother Earth'.Connections (2)

- The doctrinal pun Svoboda turns on: Sesha (aka Ananta), literally 'the residue/remainder', is the cosmic serpent who, bound down at the foundation by a peg, turns the leftover residue into a RESIDENCE (p.291). Sesha/Ananta is thus the concrete personification of the 'residue' principle the rule states. (embodies per §4: A is the concrete presence/personification of B.)

- Svoboda's ten-direction roster: the NADIR (adhas, 'down') is regented by Ananta/Sesa, the cosmic serpent who supports the earth and is the source of natural resources and worldly pleasures; bound down at foundation-laying, fixing the site. The downward axis is the earth/appetitive pole.

Notes from other books
- txt-svoboda-vastuThe ch.6 pilot minted dev-ananta as the NADIR (adhas) dikpāla. THIS patch adds Śeṣa's RESIDUE role: the serpent of the leftover/residue is pegged down at the foundation to become the dwelling's microcosmic center. Ties dev-ananta to the new rul-residue-and-negative-space doctrine (the Śeṣa = śeṣa = residue pun is the hinge of Svoboda's whole 'residue' framing). [TRADITIONAL — Svoboda transmitting].
