Directional SeatFilledper txt-svoboda-vastu
⚑ Rajas is seated in the SOUTHEAST AND NORTHWEST corners (the two 'maneuvering hands'): 'The southeast and northwest stand for rajas, for activity occurring in the present moment'; they are 'where we now stand, the stage on which we act out our roles'; spending time in / facing them 'will automatically activate and boost your overall activity level'. SE light = 'rajasic, Venusian tang'; NW light = 'the rajasic flavor of the capricious moon'.
Guna Of DwellingFilledper txt-svoboda-vastu
⚑ The game room / workshop should support rajas, to encourage activity (a workshop is 'a place of rajas'); but let rajas get out of hand and the activity develops its own runaway momentum. Among the elements, Air is rajasic and Fire is sattvic-and-rajasic.
PhenomenologyFilledper txt-svoboda-vastu
Rajas (activity): 'active consciousness, awareness that is always on the move, searching for something with which to associate itself.' A rajas-dominated mind 'eternally craves new and different relationships, and is ever ready to make changes even when change is inappropriate.' Loud, quick-moving, stimulating media (music videos) transmit rajas.

  • Frawley maps the Cardinal (Chara) modality to the guna Rajas ('the principle of movement, gives impulse, direction, expression', book p.110). NB this is Frawley's primary mapping; he himself reports 'some Vedic astrologers' invert the Fixed/Mutable pair (Fixed->Sattva, Mutable->Tamas, book p.111) - captured as rul-signs-by-quality.has_internal_divergence:true, NOT as a contradicts edge.
  • SoutheastModern
SE confluence: 'Southeast... of rajas'; 'present-time creativity resides in the southeast and northwest' (PDF pp.190, 192). The guna leg of the SE confluence.
  • dir-vayavyaModern
NW confluence: 'Northwest is the direction... of rajas' (PDF p.194); its light 'enjoys the rajasic flavor of the capricious moon'; with SE it is the 'present-time' / activity quadrant. The guna leg of the NW confluence (shared rajas with SE).
