The earth mahabhuta — the principle of solidity/mass. Frawley uses Earth only in the 4-element zodiac scheme (Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn) and notes that Ayurveda 'tends to include the Earth under the Water humor' rather than treating it as a separate humor.

- The traditional Hindu table (Frawley's transmission) makes Mercury the earth planet ('said by many to represent the element of earth … basic earthly qualities of objective perception, commerce and communication'). Mutable; also said air/ether.
- Frawley's own modification: 'make Saturn rule earth' (its attributes 'dark, heavy, gross and coarse... may be said to rule over earth'; strong Saturn 'gives earthly qualities').
- Taurus is an Earth sign in the four-element triplicity (Earth = Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn) (book p.112-113).
- The Muladhara (root center) corresponds to earth (prithvi) — the standard tantric mahabhuta of the lowest chakra. Frawley does NOT tabulate a chakra-by-chakra element scheme in this chapter and explicitly warns (book p.234) that his chakra correspondences 'differ slightly from the usual order, particularly in regard to rulership of the elements'; this edge therefore carries the STANDARD tantric series, not Frawley's chapter scheme.
- Svoboda: 'Square is the shape of Earth, the most stable and reliable of the Five Elements.' The square plan symbolically IS the Earth element — its four equal sides / four ground-points expressing Earth's stability (cf. the four-legged chair).
- The Earth-half of Svoboda's disputed SW assignment: SW = Space OR Earth ('authorities disagree'); SW reflects Earth (kapha). Svoboda's remedy of placing 'extra Earth' (tall heavy things) in the SW treats it as the Earth quadrant; the center then takes Space.
- SW confluence: 'Southwest is presided over... by the Earth Element' (PDF p.193); 'the stability that Earth offers makes southwest the perfect location for the master bedroom'. NOTE: here Svoboda commits SW's element to EARTH, where the pilot (p.150) recorded SW as Space-OR-Earth ('authorities disagree') - a within-author value-shift, flagged. The element leg of the SW confluence.

- Svoboda names Ganesha 'lord of the Earth Element' and therefore 'the essence of firmness'; lauding him makes oneself and one's actions more deliberate and likely to succeed (p.293). The lordship is a deity-over-element regency (scope adhidevata: a deity presiding over a tattva).

NOTE Svoboda's pancabhuta dosha-composition makes Earth a CONSTITUENT of kapha (kapha = Water + Earth, PDF p.065) — see the dos-kapha patch and the divergence question vs Frawley, who folded Earth UNDER Water rather than into kapha as a distinct constituent.
